Bridge Rehabilitation

Wills Creek Bridge
Winner of the 2001 Maryland State Highway Administration Quality Initiative Award for the category entitled "Bridge Design by a Consultant", the Wills Creek Bridge project was a $1.4 million rehabilitation of an historic, three-span concrete arch bridge in Cumberland, Maryland. The rehabilitation consisted of tie-back of severely displaced spandrel walls, jet-grouting of soil fill material, new ornamental parapets and lighting, major concrete repairs to arch barrels and piers, and more.
Historic Truss Bridge
Mr. Schmidt co-authored a paper for the International Bridge Conference entitled "The Importance of Load Bearing Capacity Evaluation of Pins in the Load Rating and Upgrading of Pin Connected Truss Bridges". The paper was published in the IBC's 1991 Journal and was the result of a rehabilitation study of eight historic truss bridges in Baltimore County.
Glen Echo Trolley Bridge
This project involved the major rehabilitation of an abandoned, historic truss bridge built to carry trolley traffic in the 1800's. The rehabilitation effort consisted of a new deck, the addition of several superstructure members, tie back of severely displaced wing walls, jacking for bearing replacement, and major concrete repairs.
Towson Universtiy Pedestrian Bridge
This project included the inspection and remedial plan preparation for a ten-span, 322' long pedestrian bridge on the campus of Towson University. The remedial action included emergency shoring and major cast-in-place repairs to the severely deteriorated east abutment; jacking and replacement of frozen bearings; and several other items.
US 522 Bridge
This remedial assignment involved jacking to facilitate bearing repairs to the steel beam approach spans of this bridge on US 522 over the Potomac River in Hancock, Maryland. The scope also included several other miscellaneous repairs.
